Additional Information

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tracy Lightner began writing as a child and has written several manuscripts  over the course of 25 years.  She has always cherished poetry, but put writing aside to raise her daughters.  She is a leader in the communities in which she resides. For over a decade, she led others in the fight against obesity and founded the nonprofit ThickHealth.org! She and her two daughter’s efforts have been reported on by major networks such as FOX, CBS, NBC, TBN and other media outlets. She has worked for major national and global employers for over 20 years in Human Resources and Operations.

Tracy pursued her Doctorate in Healthcare Administration when the pandemic interrupted her studies. She has always had a passion for gardening and farming and started to do so in her backyard. With the uncertainty of the global pandemic, she purchased around 25 acres of land in Oklahoma and thus continues to work, write and continues to build her farm and outdoor recreation business.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Second Chances

This collection of poems span the course of over 25 years.  Inside a capsule of rhythmic rhymes which provide a glimpse of Tracy’s life journey.  It lends voice to the many struggles, and times when she didn’t know which way to turn. Sometimes she resolved to isolation, to shelter her in her times of sadness. This collection speaks to love and romance, loss of life too soon, single parenting, domestic violence, spiritual beliefs, church hurt and other serious topics.

Tracy states, “But as time progressed, the hurt and pain begun to fade.  Though these experiences were not all desired, if granted a Second Chance, I’d choose This Life again.”

Second Chances

By: Tracy Lightner

Life deals us our deck of cards

Sometimes there are no diamonds

Sometimes there are no hearts

You won’t know until you find one.

We sometimes make choices

That we live to regret

New love to last forever

Broken promises never kept.

Some were never popular

In elementary school

Those who thought they were

May be the biggest fools.

Some things in life

I wish I did again.

If granted one more chance

I would make amends.

But I don’t look back

I had my time with that.

The future became my friend

I have a chance again.
