Tianni Johnson: A Brown Ballerina’s Journey in Dance

Atlanta, GA – Meet Tianni Johnson, a dancer based in Atlanta, Georgia, whose journey in the world of dance is marked by precision, artistry, and a passion for fostering a more inclusive dance community. Tianni shares her experiences, challenges, and hopes for the future as a Brown Ballerina dedicated to her craft.

Tianni Johnson’s journey in dance is characterized by her commitment to precision and an unwavering dedication to the art form. She describes herself as a clean and analytical dancer, emphasizing the importance of movement quality in her performances. When not focused on precision, she dives into the artistic expression of her movements, creating a dynamic and engaging presence on the stage.

Currently, Tianni is honing her skills at Fleet Dance Coaching and Xcel Talent Agency, where she focuses on both concert and commercial styles of dance. Her versatility and open-mindedness towards learning new dance styles set her apart in the world of dance and as a Brown Ballerina. She takes pride in being a blank canvas for the art of dance, eagerly embracing different settings and challenges.

One of the most significant challenges Tianni has overcome as a Brown Ballerina is the lack of representation in the dance world. She points out, “The biggest challenge I have overcome is not having a role model to look up to for the majority of my training years. It took me a while to find dancers that I could see my movement, body type, and similar aspirations in.” Finding relatable role models and representation was pivotal in her journey, as it allowed her to envision herself in the dance environments she aspired to be a part of.

Tianni draws inspiration from dancers like Tatiana Melendez, who have shown that dancers of all backgrounds can demand the stage and captivate the attention of a full theater. These role models inspire her to pursue her dreams with unwavering determination.

Looking to the future, Tianni envisions a more inclusive and accessible dance community for Brown Ballerinas. She notes, “I have noticed that solid dance training in ballet and modern techniques is not easily accessible in some predominately brown areas. I would love to see the establishment of strong technical studios that are accessible and affordable for more Brown Ballerinas around the world.”

For those interested in catching Tianni’s performances, she will be showcasing her talent at the Sweatt Dallas Dance Festival on November 17th and 18th. This is an opportunity to witness her remarkable skills and artistry on stage.
